What began as weekend cooking workshops in a cramped apartment kitchen grew into something we never anticipated.
Feral Dusk started in 2018 when our founder, Elena Marchetti, realised that most cooking education missed the point entirely. Culinary schools taught technique in sterile environments. YouTube tutorials glossed over the why behind each step. And home cooks were left feeling inadequate, comparing themselves to polished professionals instead of celebrating their own progress.
Elena had spent fifteen years working in restaurant kitchens across Sydney and Melbourne. She loved the precision, the heat, the controlled chaos. But she noticed something troubling: the people she cooked for rarely cooked for themselves. They had outsourced one of life's most fundamental pleasures to restaurants and delivery apps.
So she started teaching. Not in classrooms, but in actual kitchens—cramped ones with quirky ovens and limited counter space. The kind of kitchens where real cooking happens.
We do not chase culinary perfection. Perfect plating belongs in fine dining establishments, not in homes where children run through kitchens and timers get forgotten.
What we chase is confidence. The kind of confidence that lets you open a refrigerator, see what is there, and create something satisfying without consulting a recipe. The confidence to improvise, to taste, to adjust, and to trust yourself.
Our teaching method strips away the intimidation that surrounds cooking. We break complex dishes into understandable principles. Once you grasp the principle, you can apply it in countless ways.
A recipe is a suggestion. Understanding why that suggestion works is what transforms you into a cook.— Elena Marchetti, Founder

Feral Dusk sounds unusual for a cooking company. That was intentional.
Cooking, at its best, has a wild quality to it. It involves fire, transformation, and a willingness to embrace imperfection. Dusk represents the transition—the moment when day cooks turn into evening hosts, when ingredients become meals, when hunger turns to satisfaction.
We wanted a name that felt alive, a bit untamed, and distinctly memorable. Something that reflected the energy of a busy kitchen rather than the sterility of a corporate brand.
Every person who works with us receives undivided attention during their sessions. We do not overbook. We do not rush. We treat your kitchen with respect and leave it cleaner than we found it.
More importantly, we measure success not by how impressive the dishes look, but by whether you feel equipped to recreate them—and variations of them—on your own.
Cooking is too important to feel like a chore. Our job is to remind you why it can be one of life's genuine pleasures.
